# Sudoku for Seniors: Large Print Puzzles and How to Start

Sudoku suits any age: no maths, no rush, just logic. Large print sheets twice the usual size, tips for starting out, and what research says about the brain.

## Quick answer

Sudoku suits players of any age: it needs no arithmetic and no general knowledge, and there is no clock unless you want one. If small print is hard to read, the most practical help is a bigger grid. Our large print sheets put one puzzle on a page, with the grid 160 mm wide and the digits printed at 32 points, about twice the size of our standard sheets.

- One puzzle per page, with a grid 160 mm wide on paper.
- Digits printed at 32 points, about twice the size of our standard sheets.
- Start with Easy: every step is a square with only one digit left.
- The answers are on the last pages.
- Research links puzzles with better thinking scores, but has not shown that they prevent dementia.

## Why Sudoku suits older players

Sudoku needs no arithmetic, no words and no general knowledge, and there is no time limit unless you set one. Each of our puzzles has exactly one answer that can be found by logic alone, so you can go slowly, put it down and pick it up again later.

## What large print means on our sheets

Our standard sheets fit four puzzles on a page, each 82 mm wide with digits at 15 points. The large print sheets have one puzzle per page, 160 mm wide with digits at 32 points, so every square is about twice as wide and there is room to write notes. They come in Easy and Medium, and the answers are at the end.

## Tips for starting out

- Print in black on plain white paper and solve in good light.
- Use a pencil with an eraser, or a soft pen if you prefer bold marks.
- Start with Easy: every step is a square where only one digit is left.
- Play as many or as few as you like; there is no rush.
- If you get stuck, put it down and come back later: a fresh look often finds the next move.
- On a phone or tablet, our app has no ads anywhere, and its game modes work without the internet.

## Is Sudoku good for the brain?

A large 2019 study found that people aged 50 and over who often did number puzzles tended to score better on tests of thinking skills, but it could not show that the puzzles caused this. Research has not shown that Sudoku prevents dementia. Enjoying it is reason enough to play.
