Sudoku technique lessons / Nearly Complete
Lesson 2
Nearly Complete
The rule
When a row, column, or box has two empty cells, if one of its two missing numbers is already used in a row, column, or box containing one of those cells, it cannot go in that cell, so the other missing number must go there.
Step by step
- This row only needs 1, 2.
- 2 is already in the same column, so it cannot go in this cell.
- Only 1 remains for this cell!
Try it on more boards
Each board is a real puzzle from our app, at a moment where Nearly Complete applies. Find the step yourself, or tap Hint and the app's own hint walks you through it.

We also make a Sudoku app for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android. There are no ads in it at all, it works offline, and when you ask for a hint it shows you the technique instead of just filling in a number.
Sudoku Flow is made by Rubigo Games, the developer of the Sudoku app recommended on this site.
